What grade do I need on my final?
Use: needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight as a decimal. If your current grade is 84%, you want 90% overall, and the final is worth 30% (w = 0.30), then needed = (90 − 84 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 106% — meaning a 90% target isn't reachable here. Lower the target or the answer stays above 100%.
What if the score I need is over 100%?
It means the target grade is out of reach: even a perfect final can't raise your average that high, because your current grade counts for too much. The calculator flags this and shows your best-case grade (scoring 100% on the final) so you can pick a realistic target.
What if I need a negative score?
A negative required score means you've already secured the target grade — even a zero on the final leaves you at or above it. The calculator confirms this and shows your worst-case grade so you know your safety margin.
