How to convert numbers to words

Split the number into groups of three digits from the right, spell each group, then add its scale word — thousand, million, billion. Numbers from 21 to 99 are hyphenated. British English inserts "and" before the last part (one hundred and twenty-five); American English does not, and that is the form used here.

Check writing format (and xx/100)

A cheque names the currency and always shows the cents as a fraction over 100, even when the amount is whole — a blank there invites alteration. Anything past two decimal places is rounded, and the rounding carries: 1.999 is "Two and 00/100", not "One and 100/100".
