How many tiles do I need?
Divide the area you're covering by the area of one tile, then add a waste allowance. For a 12 m² floor with 30 × 30 cm tiles (0.09 m² each), that's 12 ÷ 0.09 ≈ 134 tiles, plus 10% waste ≈ 148 tiles. Always round up to whole tiles and whole boxes.
How much extra should I add for waste?
Add about 10% for a standard straight layout to cover cuts and breakage. Use 15% for a diagonal layout and up to 20% for herringbone or intricate patterns, or for rooms with many corners and obstacles. Keeping a few spare tiles is wise for future repairs.
How do I work out the number of boxes?
Divide the total tiles needed (including waste) by the number of tiles per box, then round up. If you need 148 tiles and a box holds 10, that's 15 boxes. Buying from the same batch keeps the colour consistent.
